Brazil’s milk price hike should come to an end

In the 12 months through to August, milk and dairy products became 60 percent more expensive for Brazilian consumers — making them a staple of the scorching food inflation the country has experienced since the pandemic first hit in March 2020.

At one point, a liter of milk on supermarket shelves in São Paulo cost 14 percent more than a liter of gasoline. Families began replacing milk with liquid and other dairy substitutes of negligible nutritional value to cope with price hikes.
